Remington Williams

Remington R. Williams Award

Remington Williams set a high bar with his outstanding service as Student Representative to the ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ Board of Curators (2020-2022). Through this important role, he advocated on behalf of every student across the four universities of the ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ. Remington was a recent graduate of the ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ – Kansas City School of Law and was attending the ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ – St. Louis in pursuit of a Master of Business Administration degree, which was granted posthumously following his tragic death in June. In recognition of his service to more than 75,000 students in the UM System, he was also awarded the Chancellors’ Medals from both Missouri S&T and Mizzou and was bestowed honorary alumni status from the Mizzou Alumni Association.

Remington was a compassionate, engaged leader who understood not only the value of advocating for his fellow students but also the responsibility of sharing the student perspective with the ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ Board of Curators and university leaders. He mentored student leaders at each of the four universities and identified how he could support their growth as individuals, as students and as leaders.

As a student, Remington excelled both in and out of the classroom and he was committed to ensuring all students receive the full experience while on campus—both a world-class education and countless opportunities to be involved through organizations with their peers. Extracurricular involvement and scholarship were hallmarks of Remington’s undergraduate and graduate school experiences and he advocated for others to do the same. Remington enriched the lives of those around him, regardless of their connection to him. His welcoming personality allowed for rich connections between fellow students, friends and many others to create a community that supported one another. Remington’s life provides an excellent example of what it means to be a leader who lives in service to others.

Because of his remarkable leadership, the Board of Curators created the Remington R. Williams Award to recognize six outstanding student leaders annually who inspire the growth and development of their peers. Such student leaders will also advocate for the college experience, make a positive impact on the institution by celebrating and championing its highest ideals and mission, and exhibit outstanding character and a collaborative spirit.
