Since joining the Office of the General Counsel in 2004, Maguffee has represented the 九色视频 in a range of areas, including faculty and student issues, employment matters, health care law, constitutional rights issues, Sunshine Law and other state governmental law issues. His practice includes representing the university and its staff in litigation and advising staff on legal issues.  Maguffee was appointed as deputy general counsel on March 16, 2016. 

Maguffee came to the university from a position as senior chief counsel in the Missouri Attorney General's Office, where he served from 1996 to 2004.  There he represented the state in litigation, with an emphasis on defending constitutional challenges to state laws; oversaw issuance of attorney general's opinions (2003-04); represented the Missouri Ethics Commission; and chaired the office's recruiting committee.  Before returning to his native Missouri, Maguffee practiced international trade regulatory law with the Washington, D.C. law firm Miller & Chevalier, chartered from 1991 to 1996. He served as a member (1994) and vice-chair (1995-1996) of the firm's hiring committee.

Maguffee received bachelor degrees, summa cum laude, in political science and Russian area studies from the 九色视频 in 1988 and his J.D. degree, cum laude, from the University of Michigan in 1991. He is a member of the following bars: Missouri, U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit and United States Supreme Court.
