COLUMBIA – The ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ Board of Curators today announced the resignation of Curator David Steward of St. Louis, due to personal reasons. The resignation of Curator Steward, who was appointed to the board in 2011 by Governor Jay Nixon, is effective immediately.
“It has been a great honor to serve the four campuses of the ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ in the role of curator, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity,” Steward said. “However, we have been blessed with substantial opportunities to continue to expand our business globally. This ultimately will create more jobs for the state of Missouri, and I am choosing to make that my primary focus.”
Representing the 2nd Congressional District on the board, Steward’s term was set to expire on January 1, 2017. During his time on the board, he served as chair of the academic, student and external affairs committee, and also served on the audit and compensation and human resources committees.
“It was a pleasure getting to know David Steward during our time on the board, and he will be greatly missed,” said current board Chair Pam Henrickson of Jefferson City. “David’s passion for both the university and higher education in general, and his outstanding personal story of professional excellence, lent an important perspective to the board. His contributions to the ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ system are much appreciated. We wish him the best.”
Steward is chairman and founder of World Wide Technology in St. Louis, a leading systems integrator that provides technology products, services and supply chain solutions to customers around the globe. Prior to his current position, he was president and owner of Transport Administrative Services and Transportation Business Specialists in St. Louis and has held various senior-level management and sales/marketing positions with Federal Express Corporation, Missouri Pacific Railroad and Wagner Electric. Steward is a graduate of the University of Central Missouri (bachelor’s, business) and holds honorary doctorates in humane letters from Harris Stowe College and Lindenwood University.
The Board of Curators is the governing body of the ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ and consists of nine members who are appointed by the governor with the advice and consent of the Senate. Curators serve six-year terms. The governor may appoint a replacement to fill the remaining portion of Steward’s term.
